How to Choose Window Treatments for Your Patio Door

November 27th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

If you are anything like me, you can quickly become overwhelmed by the sheer number of options of window treatments. Last year, I was looking for some window treatments for the patio door and there were a ton. I started looking online and you would not believe how many there were. Here is a breakdown of the options.

Sliding Track Blinds
These are what most people think of when they think of window treatments. They come in wood blinds, pattern fabrics, faux wood blinds and the like.

Drapes and Curtains
Curtains are a bit old fashion these days but you can still get them. They are warm and insulating. Of course, the level of insulation will greatly depend on the fabric you choose. This will help those who live in cooler climates. However, I would not want to deal with washing them.

Solar Shades, Cellular Shades, Honeycomb Shades
Whatever you want to call them, these are the latest in technology. They block out light and keep your house nice and cool. Some brands qualify for a tax credit. You will need to contact the manufacturer to see if it does.

Personally, these are my favorite because I get migraines. Wow, do they help. My mom works nights and she had them installed at her house. She loves them as well.

Awning Shades
This goes on the outside of the patio door. It does not do much good for privacy. They come in a variety of styles, colors, and patterns. Some are even designed to keep your patio cool.

If you couldn’t tell already, I went with the cellular shades from Blind Chalet. There are plenty of options to choose from, all you have to do is look around. Your home will thank you for it.
